It seems incredibly hard to tell which version of Server 2000 is installed
(Advanced/standard server/smallbusiness/enterprise).

The normal routes (system properties/ winver/ system info) only tell you
that it is server 2000, not which sub version it is!

If there were a way to do it I would pay someone 5 bucks to know the answer!

Thanks!
Joe.

Are you sure winver doesn't tell you. It does on my 03 and 08 boxes but I
don't have an 00 box handy to check. Same with msinfo32.exe ("OS Name")

It might for some subversions, but it doesn't, for example, tell you that a
sbs2000 server is an sbs server. I have a server I am fairly sure is a
server2000 advanced, but I can't find a way to verify that.

Are you saying the two methods don't report anything, just server or what?

You could take a look at boot.ini and see what is listed.
